What happens at my first consultation?Listening to you is the most important part of the treatment. Your first consultation normally takes between 40 mins and an hour. I will take a detailed health history, asking you about your current health and any medications you are taking. I will also ask about your medical and family history, emotional state, diet and lifestyle.
Routine examinations include blood pressure and taking your pulse. If felt necessary - and with your consent - I may perform a clinical examination. I will design a tailor-made prescription for you and advise you about lifestyle and dietary changes which you can make. Further appointments last approx. 30 mins and tend to occur 3-4 weeks apart. Please bring any prescribed medications with you or if more convenient a list or packaging. |
What form will me medicine take?Herbal medicines are usually prescribed as tinctures, infusions or decoctions. Topical treatments include creams and ointments.
The most common form of herbal medicine is a tincture. Tinctures are alcohol-based preparations. Alcohol dissolves different constituents than water; therefore, by using both water and alcohol nearly all of the relevant constituents are extracted. Patients often find tinctures convenient to take. Teas and capsules may also be used. |
