Collection: Leaves are collected in summer on a sunny day when the plant is in flower. The roots are collected during late autumn when the plant is in it’s second year of growth.
Marshmallow is a demulcent herb meaning that it soothes inflamed tissues. This action is due to the roots having a high mucilage content. The soothing, cooling and moistening action means that marshmallow root brings relief to hot, dry and inflamed conditions
Uses:
A cold infusion of the roots can be taken to relieve sore throats during colds and flu. It’s demulcent action also means that it is particularly indicated for inflammations of the gastritis
Dose: dried root – 2-5g by cold infusion thrice daily
